 Yesterday, we had our first VCS Homeschooling teachers training. It was so refreshing to see veteran homeschoolers in the room. Like Becc Saavedra, Grace Cartera, and Nanette Salvador.I am so grateful to be a part of a this excellent Homeschooling movement. Pastor Jun laid the biblical foundation for homeschooling.If you miss the session, here are the notes:Biblical Basis for Homeschooling PS 127: 3 Sons are a heritage from the Lord Children a reward from the Lord Gen 18:19 He will direct his children To keep the way of the Lord Dt. 6: 6-7 These commandments I give to you are to be upon your hearts Impress them on your children Moses said this in a Home context not school context While they walk, before sleep, when they get up and dinner etc Prov 1:8 Listen to you father's instructions and to your mother's teaching Eph 6:1 Children, Obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. 8 simple rules for teachers:- 1. Emphasize the value and importance of each subject matter
- 2. Emphasize principles not just facts
- 3. Provide students with a visual aids when possible to explain abstract concepts
- 4. Use-in-class activities to reinforce newly presented materials
- 5. Help students create "LINK" when teaching something new
- 6. Recognize the importance of vocabulary in a course
- 7. Treat students with respect
- 8. Hold students to a high standard

SKILL
- the ability to do something well, usually gained through training or experience
- possession of the qualities (especially mental qualities) required to do something or get something done

Teachers need to be sharp in their teaching and learning skills.
Concept of Skill sets:
Every successful atlethe, businessman, singer, chef, lawyer all share common trait that is all of them have master certain set of connected skill sets,
For Michael Jordan to be graceful in his flight in the air, he mentioned in one of his interviews that he attends ballet classes to enhance his grace in motion. So, running plus ballet plus good hand coordination could be the skill set formula in order to perfect a good dunk.
Skill sets are combination of connected skill in learning in order to attain a certain level of mastery in subject like Math and Language.
We need to breakdown concepts into small concrete ideas in order for kids to master the whole thought. Breaking it down is the key.
EDUCATION DEFINED: 1828 Noah Webster Dictionary
- Enlighten the understanding
- Correct the temper
- Form manners & habits of youth
- Fit them for usefulness in their future station in life
NOTE: Only 1/4 of education has to do with information, 3/4's is character building direction and training (That is temper, habits and usefulness for future station)
